believe the hype 6/9/06 Description: lomos and words from 'bad hair boy' Comments: "Some more years down the line he roams the streets of his beloved city, disguised as a historian, armed with a camera, looking out for eye candy." At about that same time, a bad hair cut earned him his nickname and his friends knew that bad hair boy loved to capture moments with his Lomo. On the other side of the page, he loves to write. Into games, urban things, nightlife, and computers, his thoughts in the blog on the right are every bit as interesting as his tasty pictures on the left. Believe the hype... [MizzFonky]
MizzFonky 6/2/06 Description: lomography, graphic design and music Comments: An office administrator by day, MizzFonky's into lomography, design, and music and her personal site is a delightful creative space. Neverends.net 5/19/06 Description: dark vs. fantasy - in digital paintings and photographs (some mature content) Comments: "This is not a dream. This is my world." Diane's dark art explores cohabiting opposites (such as life/dead or real/virtual) using images to, in effect, rebuild or resurrect reality. In humans, Diane see phantoms – in abandoned places, graphical riches and emotion. Montages. Photos (including Lomos). Digital paintings. An astounding collection of very personal art.
Out of Contxt 1/8/06 Description: photoblog of Bill Vaccaro Comments: "He shoots with plastic... mostly." Bill's got over 2 dozen cameras, including a number of toy cameras like the Lomo, Holga, and Diana, to name a few. Based in Chicago, he's obviously fond of shooting with film (there seems to be just one digital shot in the entire archives) and his collection includes many shots taken with handmade lenses. Explore by theme, camera used, film process, or film type – and enjoy!
break into pieces 7/14/05 Description: gallery of Lomos (Flash) Comments: If you like Lomo photos, you'll enjoy this collection of recent shots by Japanese photographer Yoshiyuki Yatsuda. greyscalegorilla 7/12/05 Description: personal photoblog and journal Comments: I do believe I found a little gem. "As digital gives way to film, candid/street photos give way to posed portraits." Next stop, the archive – lomos, people, landscapes – cool creativity...;~))
Everyday Okay 2/21/05 Description: short film, photos, and music (Flash) Comments: "Take a trip across the country side." It's an odd trip to say the least – a short film called "The Money" – visually impressive with a soundtrack to match. There's more music to listen to from Joel's Beauchamp Falls project. Add a few hundred artsy photos, many of them Lomos, and you realize that creative spaces like today's pick don't come along everyday... [liquidlink]
Always Curious 9/19/04 Description: A daily photo journal - a life told through photography for anyone who is curious Comments: Charlie's Morning Walk is one of many great shots in the Natural Wonders category (as is Sidewalk Collage). There's 5 other categories, plus 2 pop-up Lomo galleries – all good. And I wouldn't want you to miss this shot – what a cool portrait!
brad knapp cot com 9/1/04 Description: photoblog of a graphic designer living in the upper midwest Comments: A picture of remnants was on the main page the first time I visited, immediately making me want to explore. A shot of wood type, one of a old train, and an outstanding moon shot were among my tastiest encounters, though there's too many to mention 'em all. The archives, going back to early December, include some amazing macro shots (and Lomos too). Thanks Brad...
filterpaper 3/25/04 Description: weblog and gallery of photographer Albert Yee Comments: The square black & whites posted to the weblog this month are really good photos in my opinion. I love the back alley shot. The weblog is a few years old with plenty of Albert's photos among the posts. There's also a large Gallery section (actually more a standalone site) with a variety of interesting projects/albums. I also discovered a link to his lomographics. "Snaps are therapeutic" says Albert... indeed!
35togo 9/2/03 Description: daily sights and sounds from Taiwan and other parts of Asia Comments: Clark MacLeod says something interesting about his site. "It's still a child but is growing and will someday be all that I planned it to be." I'm wondering if sound files are a part of his plan that's he's not yet implemented, but wants to in the long run. "This is all about being a witness to interesting visual and auditory events." Intriguing potential in my mind, but for now, the visuals are quite enough, thank you. Clark lives in Taiwan and likes "to look around corners" in his travels and carries a Canon digital and a Lomo. The results are interesting and engaging, especially if you've never been to that part of the world...
randomentality.com 3/18/03 Description: telling of no word stories - photos plus lomos Comments: His lomos are great and so is the presentation. The lomo subdomain was gonna be today's pick until I decided to see if there was more content at www. Indeed, there was, so consider the lomos just part of the bigger picture. The old family photos in the "Where I Began" series and another daily assortment called "Larger Than Life" are among the ones I liked the best. And if you want some great color, check out "Subculture Art." There's about 40 series, dating back to last September, so move along, photo lovers... ;~]
nirvana.blue 3/14/03 Description: creative photography gallery Comments: Like yesterday, today's pick is a gallery featuring the works of a Portuguese photographer. She calls herself "nirvana blue" and I call her work creative photography. "We are not separate from spirt, we are in it." A series called "the pain" combines poetic thoughts with what appears to be self-portraits, talking of a "broken soul" in "desperate hours." Quite moving. If you like Lomography, there's several outstanding series for you in the "lomos" section. Add a section of "landscapes" plus several other series, which are just as creative/emotive as "the pain." I like the simplicity of the design and the navigation, too. Thanks Sónia!
katika&polaroids.net 12/20/02 Description: photography projects Comments: Like photos taken with a Lomo, the results one gets with a Polaroid can be unpredictably artistic. I know artistic is a subjective thing but I really enjoy viewing photos taken with a camera that takes some of the control away from photographer like that. I'll guess that Katika, as a photographer, enjoys Polaroids for that reason (and other reasons as well). There's other cameras she enjoys, too, and the Lomo is one of them (see "This is not a Polaroid"). One of the Polaroid projects ("Cadavres Exquis") serves up 4 different random photos in a row. "Click on the items to compose a sentence" and keep clicking to change it. The sequence of images represent "subject, verb, time, and place" and the resulting sentence is up to the viewer, I suppose – interesting. There's 3 other projects that are fantastic studies of people. When you add the artistic quality that the camera itself produces to the unique artistic viewpoint of the photographer (with a real knack for composition), the results are most enjoyable...
panism.com 7/12/02 Description: design plus vision (Flash) Comments: Pan. Pan Chan. Panchan. Pan. His name lends itself well to the naming of the several unique directions you can take after hitting the main page from the "onedaypanagraph" on the splash. You'll need QuickTime for "panarama" – meet the "YoYo King" and see "Pan and Cat" among other things there. Then, there's "panagraph" featuring "graphical homeworks" and promising "no scroll | no information | no idea." 9 static visuals can be found there. Another section called "Autograph" (which seems to have missed the pan in its name, but is related to panagraph) displays works done in Autoshop and Auto-illustrator. Last, but definitely the best part of the site in my opinion, is "panavisions." Just updated earlier this month with its 21st series of images, the most recent set is "lomo double exposure." The section's interface looks a little like the Periodic Table and other series include "taxi driver who have a strange name", "designers in the dark", and "writing, sleeping, eating." Check out how you can rotate the interface within each series – very cool! This big creative space has more than you can take in on one visit – it'll make you "thinkpanism" for sure...
Typofabrik 4/15/02 Description: high-quality Lomography Images, a lot of experimental Stuff and Sounds Comments: "Design with your heart, not with your mind. Then let's see what other people think, how they are and what they want to feel." That's the spirit behind "Contribute the feeling 2002" – "...now it's your turn." The splash page at today's pick gives two choices as to where to enter and "Contribute the feeling" is one of them – it's off to good start already with "Issue#02" only needing one more contribution to be complete – nice visuals with information about each contributor! The other direction you can take from the splash is to "v2.0" of the site, launched on the first day of this year. The content's biggest section is "Lomography" sporting 10 issues of "high quality" Lomo pictures, each issue containing 24 shots – Gerthulf is good with a Lomo! There's also a section where you can download .mp3s from a band that Gerthulf plays in. Add other art and experimental stuff plus more photography from a friend, Joachim – plenty of cool creative content...
Ecce Lomo 10/15/01 Description: French website about lomography Comments:There's a picture in the "things" section of today's pick called "Hot Lines" that reminds me very much of a picture I took recently, both in composition and meaning. His is a 200x136 Lomograph and mine a 640x480 photograph taken with a digital camera. His shot is taken somewhere in France and mine, here in Illinois – both near our homes. I hope he doesn't mind my linking directly to his photo to show the comparison – the meaning has to do with being connected and it appears we are. He calls himself Ecce Lomo and his site is a nicely designed presentation of his Lomographic work – people, places, and things, plus a miscellaneous section where the pets live. The "people" section shows family and friends and Ecce Lomo himself, while the other two sections provide his interesting perspective of the part of the world he resides in. I think Lomography is cool and sites like today's pick make me wanna go out get a Lomo for myself...
peculiar planet 8/7/01 Description: foto gallerie - visiting only, no inhabiting.... Comments: "It loves low light" and "does what IT wants to do." That what this guy who calls himself "dude" says about the Lomo. The unpredictable results are part its allure and the dude is definitely hooked on it. But he's not just a "lomographer" – dude's got 18 other cameras and uses all of 'em... quite well, thank you. So, we've got three different Lomo galleries, plus a half-dozen other "digital galleries" here, each with roughly 30 photos. Dude's got content – good content, and plenty of it. In addition to engaging photos, one after the other, he also shares knowledge about the art and the equipment used. Nice tiny thumbnails and excellent navigation. There's also a portfolio of his web work, which includes a site about "his other 'art'" – he's into making hand bound books and his site about it is excellent – it discusses the concept, tools, and paper used in the craft and the gallery has six different pieces in it. It's a good day at coolstop 'cause you're getting more than one great site with today's pick – it's all about the content, dude...
