Description: urban expression in the streets of Paris...
Comments: The person behind the project sees those old television test patterns as universal symbols, which are, if you're over 30-years-old, probably "engraved in your spirit." The multicoloured image, also said to symbolize Orwell's Big Brother, "penetrated all the hearths, without being invited." No doubt, television has had powerful impact on our lives, and that subliminal image, an emblem of earlier days in the media, lives on in this artist's posters, stickers, and mosaics, found on the streets of Paris and showcased on the site. There's also a section of more general street art in and around the community – please stand by...

  • NYC24 5/28/06
Description: real New York stories on a variety of themes
Comments: It's a news magazine produced biweekly by the New Media Workshop at Columbia. A large staff of reporters, aided by the humor and wisdom of 4 advisors, covers a variety of issues and themes related to New York City – somne extraordinary content in my opinion. The most recent version of the archives is a good place to start...  [DWT < blog.bsing.net]

  • Brent Stirton 5/26/06
Description: photojournalism plus sport, travel, and portrait photography
Comments: The latest project, Dubai Labour Issues, in addition to a number of phenomenal photographs, includes in-depth background information on the country's "massively exploited million man work-force." An eye-opener for sure and there's dozens of other projects to explore here. And Shirton's Sport, Travel, and Portraits sections are extraordinary too.

Description: anyone and everyone can be world famous....for 15 seconds (Flash)
Comments: "Art was once the domain of the privileged, wealthy and famous, but no more. In the 21st century art is being fundamentally realigned for anyone and everyone." The site bills itself as an homage to Andy Warhol, who once said, "In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes." The site derives it content from user-submitted mobile video clips and upon entering the site, 15 random clips from the database are displayed for 15 seconds each before being replaced by new clips. Sit back and watch real people being famous before your eyes – what fun!  [Pixelsurgeon]

Comments: It's hard to believe a beginner took this amazing shot. Did I just say amazing? Enjoy browsing the tasty slices...;~))

  • Neverends.net 5/19/06
Description: dark vs. fantasy - in digital paintings and photographs (some mature content)
Comments: "This is not a dream. This is my world." Diane's dark art explores cohabiting opposites (such as life/dead or real/virtual) using images to, in effect, rebuild or resurrect reality. In humans, Diane see phantoms – in abandoned places, graphical riches and emotion. Montages. Photos (including Lomos. Digital paintings. An astounding collection of very personal art.

Description: "when he grows up, he wants to be a photographer"
Comments: I'm here to say "I [definitely don't] hate jamie campbell's photography." In fact, even though I'm not crazy about the site's design, the creative content is simply too good to pass up. Besides some excellent portraits among Jamie's human beings and the more staged untitled fabrication series, there's a work in progress titled beasts of burden I find most amusing. Jamie recently earned a BFA and if this collection of creative, sometimes humorous works are any indication, he's gonna be quite a photographer... when "he grows up," that is. And here's a little bonus found on his bio page...;~))

Description: the personal blog of Eric Lim
Comments: He's into gadgets, TV, and the web among many other things and it's a cleanly coded, great-lookin' blog design. Besides that, I'll let the author do the talking:

Eric Lim smells like noodles; enjoys driving in traffic in the Los Angeles area; is scared of girls; tries to make people feel bad; is allergic to hot wings; is (almost) undefeated Go Fish Champion; is the destroyer of toasters; is a self-qualified CSS Ninja; wants to learn to ride a unicycle just so he can call himself "GizmoDuck"; and is an aspiring writer who doesn't write.

He is eagerly awaiting the revolution.

Description: photos by Tim and Melissa - our world, your journey (Flash)
Comments: She's interested in capturing "everyday life" and though "somewhat new to photography," says she's been "gifted with 'an eye' for the art." His "eye for art" came as a kid who loved to draw and eventually got into design and photography.  Today's pick is where Tim and Melissa share "their world" through photographs.  Impressive...

    Description: photographs by Peter Stewart
Comments: Somewhere in Denmark, Peter spies into another lens – a great reflection shot. More amazing pics of water, windows, and asphalt mirroring their surroundings in peculiar ways. "I aim to improve my ability to 'see' and take advantage of it," says Peter. I'm inspired by what he sees...  [VFXY]

  • nfctd 5/8/06
    Description: interactive collage animation (Flash)
Comments: Today's pick will take a little patience on your part, but if you like collage and motion and you're curious enough to explore each phase of the animation with your mouse, you'll be pleasantly rewarded. Cool soundtrack too...

  • jean-pierre hébert 5/4/06
Description: algorithmic art - drawings and mixed media since the 70s
Comments: "In 1979 Hébert pioneered the creation of drawings based on original code and computer-driven devices..." according to this published bio. An artist, or more precisely, an algorist, Jean-Pierre says "The self-emergence of the drawing on the paper resulting from the mental vision is always a magically rewarding and fascinating performance..." Enjoy his art!  [Future Now]

  • gorin-images.com 5/3/06
Description: photoblog featuring abstract and creative works, plus nature and people photos
Comments: An image ranked #1 in a Closed contest inspires me anew each time I look at it. An apparently abandoned, decaying warehouse – an amazing photograph in my opinion. "I now shoot many more 'artistic' photographs than 'work' photographs," says Jarrett, whose Abstract & Creative category is my favorite (though he certainly has a knack for people too). "I hope that you enjoy the images that I post here!" I did, thank you...;~))
